The Government of Kerala reconstituted the State Haj Committee, including a Shi’a member for the first time in the history of the committee. The new committee will come into effect on 21st June. The committee will soon meet to elect the chairman, said Paloli Muhammed Kutty, Minister in charge of Haj affairs.
The Committee is constituted of 16 members, among which two are ex-officio and the rest 14 are nominated by the Government. KV Abdul Qader, MLA, State Wakf Board Chairman, and MC Mohandas, IAS, Executive Officer (who is also the District Collector of Malappuram), are the ex-officio members. The nominated members are:
1. K.E. Ismail, MP
2. P.T.A. Raheem, MLA
3. K. Muhammedunni Haji, MLA
4. K.P. Kunhammed Kutty Master, District Panchayat President, Kozhikode
5. Ali Kadampuzha (People’s Democratic Party)
6. S.V. Rahmatulla (Nadvathul Mujahideen – Madavoor faction)
7. M. Abdussalam Vaniyambalam (Jama’athe Islami)
8. Thodiyoor Muhammed Kunh Moulvi (Dakshina Samastha)
9. Sheikh Thahir Barbaya Kozhikode (Shi’a member)
10. Ahmed Devarkovil (Indian National League)
11. A.V Abduraheem (Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen)
12. K.M. Muhammed Kasim Koya
13. P.P. Uvais Haji (Thabligh Jama’ath)
14. Kayikkara Shamsudheen (Muslim Jama’ath Council)
The Government has retained seven members of the last committee. The new members are KE Ismail, Sheikh Thahir Barbaya, Ali Kadmpuzha, Kayikkara Shamsudheen, Thodiyoor Muhammed Kunh Moulvi, K Kunhammed Kutty and Ahmed Devarkovil.
The committee will be in office for three years.
