Manikant, a VII semester student at the BHU medical college, was nabbed by the Punjab police Friday on the basis of leads given by Delhi-based Sanjiv Kumar, who was stated to be the kingpin of the racket.

Before taking away Manikant to Faridkot to register a criminal case against him, the policemen from Punjab told reporters here: “Manikant had impersonated at the 2008 Punjab PMT examination for Keshav Kumar, with whom Sanjiv Kumar had struck a deal for Rs.12 lakh.”

Manikant was stated to have appeared in the Punjab PMT on June 22, 2008. Thanks to him, Keshav Kumar managed to get admission into MBBS at Faridkot.

Both Manikant and Sanjiv Kumar were allegedly thriving through this ‘Munnabhai’ modus operandi. The racket takes its name from the popular Bollywood film “Munnabhai M.B.B.S.”.

The Punjab police got on to their trail during the course of investigations into complaints of large scale irregularities in the 2008 PMT in Punjab.
