Ludhiana : The non-resident Indian (NRI)-dominated village of Muksudran near this industrial city of Punjab Saturday got a school with the state government pledging a grant of Rs.10 million.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said the school would be built on an 8-acre campus and would have adequate facilities.
NRI brothers Harry and Avtar Gill have already contributed Rs.5 million to set up the school complex. Badal Saturday inaugurated a portion of the school.
The chief minister promised to make it a model school under the state government's newly launched plan for "Adarsh" schools. He said that this and other model schools in Punjab will be set up with public-private participation.
He said that the concept of Adarsh schools was to provide free education to bright and poor students to ensure a level-playing field in education.
The state government has already set up three such schools at Khatkar Kalan – the village where freedom fighter Bhagat Singh was born and lived, Tohra and Talwandi Sabo.
