Central Madrasa Board: Centre to rope in Muslim MPs to move the proposal

By TwoCircles.net Staff Reporter,

New Delhi: While leading Islamic seminaries, religious organizations and leaders have rejected the Central Government proposal to set up a Central Madrasa Board (CMB) on the pattern of CBSE to mainstream madrasa students, there is a fresh move by the Human Resource Development Ministry to discuss the proposal with Muslim MPs from across all political parties.

To build consensus on the proposal for CMB the HRD is planning to invite all Muslim MPs from both Houses of Parliament for a daylong discussion on the issue.

The Muslim community leaders have rejected the proposal as they fear this will allow government interference in the madrasa curriculum. Of late, the ministry however has made it clear that it has no plan to interfere in religious or theological subjects and would just try to incorporate sciences and mathematics into their curriculum.

According to the proposal, the CMB will supervise madrasas at all levels, link up with the open schooling system for teaching in modern subjects and make regulations for affiliation/disaffiliation.

The ministry has also reportedly proposed that the 10-member CMB will be packed with members representing all traditional Islamic ways.
