Thrissur (Kerala) : Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan Saturday inaugurated the third IT park in the state – Phase 1 of Infopark Koratty – and said that nearly 200,000 jobs in information technology sector would be created in the next two years.

Achuthanandan said a Cyber Park at Kozhikode, similar to the IT parks already functioning, would be opened soon.

“In the next two years, we are confident that we will be able to provide two lakh jobs in the IT sector. Under the Cyber Park, we will have smaller IT parks at Kannur and Kasargode districts,” said Achuthanandan.

There are nearly 200 IT companies which employ more than 30,000 professionals at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and Infopark campus in Kochi.

The Phase 1 of the state-of-the-art Infopark Koratty is about 40,000 sq ft in area and has attracted 13 companies which will employ about 500 professionals.

“When the land was acquired, we had promised that we should be able to start operations within a year. I am glad that we are able to fulfil that promise ahead of time. I will not be surprised if Koratty becomes a competitor to Kochi as an IT destination in Kerala,” said Ajay Kumar, state IT secretary.

This is the first IT park that has become operational under the ‘Hub and Spoke Model’ (where Kochi Infopark acts as a hub and Koratty as the spoke)

Koratty is 45 km from Kochi and 14 km from the Cochin International Airport.
