Thiruvananthapuram : Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan Wednesday inaugurated the digitisation process at the state secretariat here and said 3.5 crore papers have been fully digitised.
“As many as 3.5 crore papers from 3.5 lakh files from 1991 to 1999 have been fully digitised and the process will continue. This will help state government officials in the secretariat get the files at the click of a button,” Achuthanandan told reporters.
The programme was taken up by the state IT department with the help of state-owned Keltron. It has cost the state government Rs.5 crore.
Chief Secretary Neela Gangadharan said only half of the job has been done and now, since the process is successful, more files will be digitised.
“Right now ministers and secretaries would have access to these digitised files and soon this would be made available to other officials. Initially, these files would be accessible only within the secretariat and in the long-run we will allow other government offices also to use this,” said Gangadharan.
State IT secretary Ajay Kumar said it took four years to complete this much work. “No other state government has been able to do this much digitisation of government files in such a short time,” he added.
