Tuesday’s election saw highest voting in Haryana

Chandigarh: Haryana voters set a new record for the state, registering 72.71 percent balloting in Tuesday’s assembly election.

The previous record was 72.65 percent in 1967. Haryana was created out of an erstwhile Punjab province on Nov 1, 1966.

The revised and final polling percentage was released by the Election Commission Wednesday.

Haryana recorded 71.96 percent polling in the last assembly election in February 2005.

Among all 90 assembly seats, the highest polling at 87.25 percent was recorded in the Dabwali assembly seat in Sirsa district.

The lowest turnout was in Gurgaon, adjoining New Delhi, where only 54.25 voters cast their votes. Incidentally, Gurgaon had the highest number of voters at over 231,000.
