The police firing was inevitable to control the violence, said state Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to media persons after visiting the affected areas. The police have not done anything wrong. He reportedly added that the government was ready to face any investigation on the matter. The government would investigate on the statement of the former minister and Muslim League leader Dr MK Muneer that miscreants infiltrated into the League rally to create problems. The Cabinet would decide regarding a judicial probe, which was demanded by the UDF, of which the Muslim League is a party.

Kochi Deputy Commissioner Prakash has been deputed to Kasargod as SP for keeping law and order. District Superintendent of Police Ramdas Pothan would carry out administrative works only. Mr Pothan was reportedly asked to take leave from today as he was facing the Crime Branch investigation in the firing incident. It is doubted that the SP had fired which resulted in the death of one of the youths. Meanwhile, the police have registered cases against nearly 750 persons in connection with the violence in the city.

The state Human Rights Commission took a case voluntarily on the police firing and violence which killed two persons. The case was taken considering the media reports. KE Gangadharan, member of the Commission, asked the district Collector of Kasargod to submit his explanation on the incident.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the attacks were carried out without the knowledge of the League leadership. Dr MK Muneer, who is also one of the secretaries of the Muslim League, had accused that the attacks were unleashed by outsiders and not by party members. The police have reportedly found sticks and stumps supposedly used for the attack from the affected areas.
