New Delhi : Two women died of swine flu in city hospitals Friday, taking the toll due to influenza A (H1N1) in the national capital to 28, a health department official said.
Meanwhile, Delhi reported 186 cases of swine flu — the highest for a single day – taking the number of people affected with the virus to 5,603. Delhi Thursday reported 176 cases of swine flu.
“Two deaths were reported today (Friady). A 40-year-old woman, who was a resident of Guru Ramdas Nagar, died in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital,” Anjana Prakash, state’s assistant nodal officer for swine flu cases, told IANS.
“Another woman died in Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. She was 60-year-old and was a resident of Janakpuri. Both did not have any travel history. Both of them came late to the hospital and were already suffering from severe respiratory problems,” she added.
The number of people affected with the virus in Delhi is highest in the country.
The state government has decided to launch fresh awareness campaign in the capital in view of the rising number of cases.
With the onset of winter, the second wave of the flu is expected to hit many more people.
“The flu is in the community now. But as of now, it is still not the second wave,” Prakash added.
