Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Monday flayed Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Om Parkash Chautala for opposing the setting up of a nuclear power plant in the state’s Fatehabad district.
“Chautala’s statement is baseless; I think that he does not want to solve the problem of power shortage in the state. This nuclear power plant is in the interest of the state, its people and the entire country,” Hooda said here Monday.
He said the state government had already earmarked land for the plant. “Such plants are successfully working in other states like Rajasthan. A country like France is totally running on nuclear energy,” Hooda noted.
Recently a team of Nuclear Power Corporation of India, led by its chairman S.K. Jain had visited the nuclear power project site in Fatehabad and held meetings with Hooda.
“The nuclear power plant would be a green project with zero emission, thus having no health hazards,” an official spokesman said.
