Chennai : A Hindi entertainment channel by a Tamil Nadu-based satellite channel operator is on the anvil here.
Raj Television Network Ltd has started work on launching Hindi channel Raj Parivaar in a couple of months.
“We have started the dry run beaming Hindi movie songs. We are in the process of finalising the kind of programmes the channel would telecast. Talks on distribution are also on at various centres,” Amit Bose, vice president (Programming) told IANS.
“Our focus will be on giving soothing programmes for the viewers — mellowed and light programmes,” he added.
“We would like to be present in the Hindi market as well.”
According to Bose, the outlay for the Hindi channel is yet to be firmed up. “It depends on the kind of programmes we will have on the channel.”
He said normally a new Hindi general entertainment channel would need between Rs.3 crore and Rs.5 crore per month.
Initially Raj Parivaar will be a free to air channel and may later turn pay.
Currently, with Rs.59 crore revenue, Raj Television Network operates six channels – Raj TV, Raj Digital Plus, Raj News, Raj Musix (all Tamil channels), Vissa Telugu general entertainment channel and Raj Musix (Kannada).
The company had earlier announced plans to launch Malayalam and Telugu news and music channels.
With its top line sliding down quarter on quarter this fiscal, Raj Television Network revamped its prime time programmes on its flagship channel Raj TV earlier this month.
