Raipur : A 32-year-old alcoholic man killed his wife and two children with a sharp-edged weapon and set their bodies on fire before burning himself to death in Chhattisgarh, police said Friday.
The incident took place Wednesday night at Siharpur village in the state’s Jashpur district, about 500 km north of capital Raipur but the police only learned about the incident Friday when a few villagers reported it.
“The murders were brutal. Ramdhani Kujur, who belonged to the Urao tribal community and was addicted to liquor, killed his wife, Kalawati, by repeatedly attacking her with a sharp-edged weapon and then his daughter Sanjeeta, 10, and his son Roshan, 6,” R.P. Singh, local police station in-charge, told IANS.
Singh said: “Kujur, a daily wage earner, poured kerosene on the bodies of his wife and children and set them on fire after killing them. The man then ended his life by setting himself also on fire.”
It is believed that Kujur killed his wife because she had not allowed him to drink for the past one week because he routinely assaulted her when he was in an inebriated state, Singh said.
