Rio De Janeiro: At least 200 people have been buried alive in a mudslide in southwest Brazil, Xinhua reported Thursday.
The mudslide occurred in Niteroi late Wednesday, said Pedro Machado, civil defence sub-secretary.
The mudslide ploughed into a slum and all the victims are feared dead, he said.
Niteroi lies across the bay from the state capital and is part of the greater Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area.
Record rain has been pouring in the Rio region since Monday, triggering repeated mudslides.
