Tehran: Iran Sunday said it will lodge a formal complaint with the UN against US President Barack Obama for threatening the country with a nuclear strike.

The move was backed by the majority of Iran’s 290 members of parliament, Press TV said citing foreign ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast.

According to the report, Tehran took this decision after Barack Obama declared last week that his administration reserved the right to launch a nuclear attack on Iran over its atomic programme.

Iran, a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), says its nuclear programme is for peaceful civilian purposes. Western countries believe Tehran is trying to build atomic bombs in the garb of its civil nuclear energy programme.

Meanwhile, Iranian lawmakers have warned the US against destabilising the already “tense Persian Gulf and Middle East” regions.
