The court’s order came after the patient, Dinesh Gupta, alleged that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had denied him maintenance hemodialysis as part of his ongoing treatment and he could not afford the same in a private hospital.

The also asked AIIMS whether it would provide regular dialysis treatment to Gupta twice a week as per doctors’ advice.

Justice S. Muralidhar directed Gupta, 37, to report to the medical superintendent, Safdarjung Hospital, for the dialysis treatment.

“It is directed that the petitioner will report to the medical superintendent, Safdarjung Hospital, tomorrow (Wednesday) morning and will be afforded the maintenance hemodialysis which is due for tomorrow,” said Muralidhar.

Filing a petition through advocates R.K. Saini and Atul Wadhera, Gupta said his kidney problem began in June 2008 and the problem had worsened due to wrong diagnosis by a local doctor.

He has been undergoing treatment at AIIMS since December 2008.
