Srinagar : Two separatist guerrillas, including a Pakistani national, were killed in a fierce gunfight with security forces that ended Friday in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
Police personnel and Rashtriya Rifles soldiers surrounded a house in Poshnag Kreeri village in Baramulla district, 60 km from here, Thursday evening after learning about the presence of militants inside.
“As the security forces challenged the gunmen to surrender, they opened fire. The battle ended early this morning. The house in which the militants were hiding was destroyed,” a police officer said.
“One of the dead men has been identified as Sajjad, a Pakistani. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants,” he added.
Pakistani militants are known to be active in Jammu and Kashmir, where a dragging separatist campaign that New Delhi says has Islamabad’s backing has claimed thousands of lives since 1989.
