Patna: In the Patna High Court order for a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities to the tune of Rs 11,412 crore in development and welfare schemes in the state between April 1, 2002 and March 31, 2008, the opposition parties have found a hot issue to attack on the Nitish Kumar government just a few months before the assembly poll.
Opposition parties including RJD, LJP, Congress and Communist Party of India demanded, in one tone, resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Mr. Sushil Kumar Modi.
Going one step forward on the issue, they met Governor Devanand Konwar one after another and demanded him to dismiss the Bihar government.
Ram Kripal Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan led a joint delegation of RJD-LJP alliance to the Governor on Saturday and handed over a memorandum asking him to dismiss the Nitish administration on the ground of the massive scandal.
Congress which has been out of power for last two decades and decided to go alone in coming assembly election found it a golden chance to attack both ruling party JD-U as well as RJD because corruption period covered regime of both parties. They staged a dharna on Kargil Chowk in Patna demanding dismissal of Bihar government. They also met the Governor under the leadership of state president Mahboob Ali Qaiser and repeated the same demand before him.
They also put RJD in the same dock and said that RJD has no moral right to accuse the present government because it is also involved in the same case.
CPI-ML too does not seem to remain behind in this contest of politics. Party state secretary Nand Kishore Prasad demanded resignation of Chief Minister and his colleagues to ensure a fair probe into the case because his position might affect the investigation.
It will be interesting to see as to how Nitish government will counter the attack by rivals and fight back during the Mansoon session of state assembly that started on July 19.
