Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against the former Regional Provident Fund Commissioner of Navi Mumbai for abusing his official position to benefit a private company, leading to the loss of crores of rupees to the government, an official said Friday.
“A case has been registered against E.S. Sanjeeva Rao, the then Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-II (RPFC-II), Vashi, for causing loss of Rs.24.91 crore to the government. He is now posted at Thane,” said a CBI spokesperson.
Rao, along with the law enforcement officer of the Vashi Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) D.M. Ambokar, abused his official position and entered into criminal conspiracy with the directors and consultant of Chembur (Mumbai) based Pratibha Industries Ltd, the spokesperson added.
According to the case details, Pratibha Industries, along with unknown officials of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and EPFO cheated the government by passing a favourable order causing wrongful gain to the firm to the tune of Rs.24.91 crore and wrongful loss to the EPFO.
Incriminating documents have been recovered during searches at the offices and residences of Rao, Ambokar and the offices of directors of Pratibha limited. “The documents are being scrutinised for further investigation,” the spokesperson said.
