President’s Estate recognised for green effort

New Delhi: The President’s Estate has become the first urban habitat in India to be accorded a ISO 14001:2004 certificate for environmental management, including pollution control and energy conservation, under its in-house Roshni project.

At a function attended by President Pratibha Patil here Sunday, the Bureau Veritas India handed over the ISO 14001:2004 certificate. “This makes the President’s Estate the first urban habitat to receive this certification,” said a press release issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The function was attended by Minister of Urban Development Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Selja, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Minister of State for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath.

Congratulating the staff of Roshni project, Patil said that changing people’s mindsets and attitudes was the key to bringing perceptible and sustainable change in their habitats.

The project aims at making the estate a green and an environmental-friendly habitat, and has various components like waste management, pollution control and energy conservation.

The function has also marked the completion of three years in office by Patil.
