Abu Dhabi : The UAE government will seek public opinion before introducing laws governing its nuclear installations, officials said Saturday.
The Federal Authority of Nuclear Regulation (FANR) said it will post five draft regulations on the internet, so people can send their views through e-mail.
The rules are pertaining to nuclear installations, locations, construction, emergency preparedness and safe transport of radioactive materials, among others.
In October last year, the Federal Law Regarding the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy was signed into effect, providing for development of a system for licensing and control of nuclear material and establishing the Federal Authority of Nuclear Regulation (FANR) to oversee the country’s nuclear sector.
It also makes it illegal to develop, construct or conduct uranium enrichment programmes in the country.
