Berlin : German politicians called for conditional talks with leaders of the the radical Taliban militia, including Mullah Omar, the Hamburg-based news magazine Der Spiegel said in a report to hit the newsstands on Sunday.
The foreign policy spokesman of the ruling Christian Democratic caucus, Philipp Missfelder said, “Radical Islamists like Hekmatyar or Taliban leader Mullah Omar could be considered as negotiation partners, if they fulfill conditions like for example renouncing violence or respecting women’s rights.”
He stressed talks with the Taliban would be aimed at “preserving stability in Afghanistan.”
Meanwhile, a leading legislator of the opposition Greens, Kerstin Mueller did not rule out an Afghan government power share with the Taliban.
The basis for such a government coalition should be the Afghan constitution, she added.
Although German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has yet to comment publicly on cooperating with the Taliban, he has privately stated that there was no alternative to such a cooperation.
