Meanwhile, the PDP has called for observing a black day tomorrow in the state in potest against the arrest of Maudany. The party has also called for hartal in Kannur and Kasargod districts.

Maudany was arrested some time ago by the Karnataka police when he was leaving the Anvarssery campus to surrender in court. The Kerala police led by Kollam SP Harshida Attalloori and IG Hemachandran accompanied the Karnataka police led by Bengaluru joint Commissioner of police Alok Kumar. Maudany is now being taken to state capital Thiruvananthapuram from where he will be taken to Bengaluru by air today evening.

The Kerala police have dealt with the developments leading to the arrest of PDP chief Abdunnasir Maudany in an exemplary way, said state Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. He was responding to media persons regarding the arrest. Mr Balakrishnan said that the police have made it clear that no law and order problems were created in the state because of the arrest. A large number of people including PDP workers and residents were at Anvarssery campus which comprises of masjid and orphanage. The district administration clamped prohibitory orders to make the situations favourable for the arrest, he added.

Maudany had announced some time before in a press conference held at Anvarssery that he would surrender in court after the zuhr prayer. He said that he had not surrendered till that time as he had not received the arrest warrant. He came to know of the warrant from the media only. He was surrendering not because he was guilty, but only because he respected the law and court. He was not waiting for the SC order on his bail plea to keep his word made earlier itself that he would surrender. However, he added that, he would court arrest of police came to arrest him.

Maudany praised the way the Kerala police dealt with things by not entering the Anvarssery campus and never letting the developments lead to any problem in the state. He said he was entrusting the orphanage to the people of Kerala. It was good that many people in Kerala know now itself that I am framed in the case. But that was not the matter with the Coimbatore case in which discussions of my innocence began several years after I was jailed. However, this case is more severe and serious. He added that he had no hopes of coming back from jail and that he could be framed in other cases too.

He expressed his gratitude to many people ranging from Justice VR Krishna Iyer to the poor Dalit people who expressed solidarity with him. Maudany asked his supporters and PDP workers to keep calm and not to resort to any violent means on his surrender.
