New Delhi : With just 30 days to go for the Commonwealth Games, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Friday assured that Delhi was ready to host the sporting event and stressed five mantras — come out to watch, come out to play, come out to smile, come out to enjoy and come out to welcome – which she said will help make the Games a grand success.
At the launch of ‘Shera Mera Dost’ – Commonwealth Games education programme for school children, Dikshit sought the involvement of youth and school children in making the Oct 3-14 event a success.
“Delhi is shaping up very well. We will have a great Games. The preparations are going on very well. It will be better, if we get support from you (the media),” she added.
Games organising committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi said there may be “some hitches” in the run up to the Games, but assured of hosting a good Games, which has so far witnessed delays, allegations of corruption and lack of coordination among agencies.
Kalmadi said hosting the Games will promote all sports played in Olympics in a country where cricket has always remained the focus.
“All sports infrastructure is in place for the Games and we are committed to make the Games the best ever. I request the students to render their constructive support. Also, I thank Dikshit for making Delhi a world-class city,” he said.
The ‘Shera Mera Dost’ programme, conceptualised by various school principals, has been prepared to educate school children about the Games and their responsibilities to generate an atmosphere conducive to the success of the Games, a Delhi government official said.
Delhi’s theme song ‘Dilli Meri Jaan…’ was also performed by Palash Sen.
