After demolition of a dargah, Mumbai area tense but calm

Mumbai: Already reeling under tense situation due to Ganeshotsav and Babri Majid verdict, situation got worse on Tuesday here in Kanjumarg are after midnight demolition of a part of Dargah.

Mahindra Infrastructure Ltd, a known developer started demolition of toilets, bathrooms which were situated outside and were not part of the Hazrat Syed Shamshuddin Qadri Dargah and Masjid, at 12.00 in the midnight of Monday.

Shaukat Ali, President of the trust told that during the demolition drive a wall of the dargah got hit and cracked, the workers pull out the flowers of the dargah. He also added that newspapers and a few copies of the Holy Quran also came in the way.

Shaukat Ali said when people came for namaz in Fajar at around 6.00 am today they found all this and news spread that the Quran has been desecrated and dargah is demolished. He further said, “Around two to three thousand people gathered and spontaneously agitated. They pelted
stone on under construction building of the developer.”

Around 2.00 p.m. Arif Nasim Khan, Minister of Minority Affairs, Maharashtra, visited along with the local police officers. They inspected the place and assured the crowd that the action will be taken against the builder. Shaukat Ali said, “Police arrested Madhu Sudan Jayekar, Manager of the developer along with 4 others.”

Arif Nasim Khan, while talking to TwoCircles.net said, “Police has arrested 5 people and situation is under control now. We have ordered to repair everything that has been demolished and the work will start from tomorrow.”
