New Delhi: Free health check up camps for diabetes and blood pressure will be set up in the slum areas of the capital by the Delhi government and the union health ministry Nov 14 — World Diabetes Day.
The programme will be launched by Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in a slum at Badarpur here Sunday.
According to Delhi Health Minister Kiran Walia, 70 check up teams headed by specialists will cover 1,180 slums and will set up free health check up camps.
“The campaign will cover entire Delhi within 3-4 months,” Walia said.
Walia also said that seven hospitals and monuments will be lit up with blue lights to create awareness against diabetes among people.
“As per UN resolution, blue lights have to be lit at monuments as well as hospitals. The Archaeological Survey of India and the director of Delhi archaeological department have been requested to light up the monuments with blue lights Nov 14,” Walia said.
The seven government hospitals to be illuminated are GTB Hospital, Lok Nayak Hospital, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, DDU Hospital, G.B. Pant Hospital, Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and Malviya Nagar Hospital.
