New Delhi : Mukesh Kumar and his team of Ravi Velloor, Hemant Raul and Shiv Shankar won the pro-am event of the BILT Open golf tournament at the Jaypee Greens Golf Course in Greater Noida here Wednesday.
Mukesh and his team won the team championship with a total score of 53 points while seasoned campaigner Gaurav Ghei and his team of Manish Periwal, J.S. Naurath and R.S. Ghotra were the runners-up with a total of 58 points.
Jaiveer Virk and his team of amateurs, M. Dharma, Dinesh Khanna and Deepak Nath were the second runners-up, also with a total score of 58 points.
The BILT Open Pro-Am was attended by the country’s leading corporate and amateur golfers and heralds the start of the BILT Open 2007, which is the richest professional golf tournament on the domestic circuit.
The tournament will be attended by the crème of Indian professional golfers, including Gaurav Ghei, Ashok Kumar, S.S.P Chowrasia, Rahil Gangjee, Digvijay Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Uttam Singh Mundy. Asian Tour regulars like Unho Park and Singapore’s Lam Chih Bing will also take part.
“I enjoyed my round today and hope to play some good golf over the next few days as the BILT Open 2007 is the richest event on the PGTI Tour,” said Mukesh.
There were also various spot prizes on offer. Sanjay Sharma and Samant Sikka won the prizes for the longest drives. Ashna Monga hit the straightest drive, while Umesh Dubey hit his shot closest to the pin on the third hole. Arjun Ranga won the prize for closest to the pin on the seventh hole, while V.K. Sibal was awarded the prize for the closest to the pin on the 14th hole.
Anil Mehra hit his shot closest to the pin on the 17th hole, while Amit Luthra won the prize for hitting his second shot closest to the pin on the 18th green. There was also a special prize for the best result of a monster putt on the practice putting green, which was holed by M.S. Bhullar.
