Guangzhou: The Indian campaign in the Asian Games track and field competition started in style with Preeja Sreedharan and Kavita Raut winning the gold and silver in the women’s 10,000 metres here Sunday.
Preeja clocked a personal best timing of 31:50.47 seconds to win the first gold medal for India the on the opening day of the athletics competition. The gold was also the day’s second for India and the fourth overall.
Kavita also registered her personal best timing of 31:51.44 seconds while Shitay Habtegebrel finished third in 31:53.27 seconds.
