Los Angeles : The Walt Disney Company is planning to spend $1.1 billion to revamp its California Adventure theme park, which has been a disappointment to visitors since opening next to the famous Disneyland resort six years ago, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The struggling park was meant to provide visitors with a microcosmic view of California but never succeeded in attracting the crowds the company had anticipated. Even with sharply discounted tickets, the park attracted fewer than six million visitors last year – short of the seven million people the company said would attend every year and a far cry from the 15 million who bought tickets to Disneyland.
The five-year revamp will give the park new attractions including several rides based on Pixar animated films such as “Cars” and “Toy Story”. A “Little Mermaid” ride is also planned and the entrance plaza will be redesigned with iconic structures reminiscent of old-time Hollywood added.
