Chandigarh : The Punjab government Friday initiated e-tendering in the state by publishing the first such tenders here.
Nearly 50 tenders of various urban local bodies were published online as Industry and Local Government Minister Manoranjan Kalia clicked the mouse here.
Kalia said the initiation of these services was another step ahead towards bringing transparency in the tendering process without compromising on required procedures.
“The department of local government in Punjab has implemented e-tendering system for various types of procurements of goods and services in urban local bodies and to obtain most competitive and suitable bids from bidders,” he said.
He said the tendering process would become faster and less cumbersome with the new facility.
Kalia added that the Punjab Infotech has imparted training to government officials of the municipal corporations of Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala. Training for vendors, suppliers and contractors has also been conducted.
He said that e-tendering has been made effective in municipal corporations in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Patiala and PMIDC (Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company) immediately.
All 143 urban local bodies and 28 improvement trusts would start publishing tenders online by the end of December.
Consequent to this, all tenders amounting to Rs.1 million and above would be available online on the portal etender.punjabgovt.gov.in.
