London : England cricketers Chris Tremlett and Stuart Broad Friday said it is “shameful” that their World Cup match against India will be shifted out from the Eden Gardens.
The two teams were scheduled to clash Feb 27 in a group match but the International Crikcet Council (ICC) Thursday deemed the Eden Gardens unfit for the match due to lack of preparedness.
Broad, who is currently in Australia for the One-day International series, expressed disappointment at the ICC’s decision and said he was looking forward to play before the capacity Kolkata crowd.
“Shame Eden Gardens not ready for World Cup, our game there would have been special with 100,000+ crowd,” Broad wrote on his Twitter page.
Fast bowler Tremlett said the venue switch was not an ideal situation and sympathised with the team supporters who booked their tickets for the match.
“I think in a few big tournaments, there seems to be things that are left to the last minute,” Tremlett was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
“I am sure that they will find ways around it, but it is a shame as I am sure a lot of people have booked plane tickets and supporters have paid a lot of money to go out there,” he said.
“I hope they can sort it out and hopefully it will not affect the team as well.”
