Kolkata : A group of suspected Maoists Tuesday damaged and looted two houses of Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) leaders in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district, police said.
“We were informed that the house of Paritosh Samanta, CPI-M’s zonal committee secretary, and local committee member Kanai Dutta in Patina village of Nayagram area were attacked by Maoists Tuesday afternoon,” said West Midnapore Additional Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar.
“The rebels damaged the houses and looted the belongings of the CPI-M leaders. The houses were abandoned as the CPI-M leaders were forced to stay away since the past few months apprehending Maoist attacks,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CPI-M alleged that a group of Trinamool supporters attacked their party supporter and rural body member Prafulla Nayek’s house in Topsia of Gopiballavpur block.
“We have received the complaint and an investigation has been initiated into the matter,” said Kumar.
Maoists are active in three western districts of the state – West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura.
