Mubarak must go now, says Islamic Human Rights Commission

By IRNA,

London : The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Thursday called on Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to step down, saying that his message that he will stay until September was “chilling.”

The London-based commission also said that the US President Barak Obama must “stop trying to buy time in order to manipulate the destiny of the Egyptian government at the expense of the lives, aspirations and human rights of the Egyptian people.”

“If Obama really hears the voices of the people then ‘Mubarak out NOW’ doesn’t leave much room for doubt,” said IHRC chair Massoud Shadjareh.

The call is what “those voices are screaming but it seems that the word NOW has been conveniently left out of Obama’s narrative,” Sadjareh said.

In an unprecedented statement Thursday, the leaders of the British, French, German, Italian and Spanish governments also stopped short of saying that Mubarak must resign in calling for a ‘quick” transition in Egyptian.

Without directly saying the Egyptian president must go, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said ‘President Mubarak should listen attentively to what his people are saying.’

“Mubarak’s announcement that he will stay until the end of his term and will not run for re-election – I’m not sure that will satisfy the demands of his people. If there is a need for change, it should happen now,’ said Ban, who is visiting the UK.
