Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) : A youth being interrogated in vehicle theft cases attempted suicide by slitting his throat inside a police station here Thursday, an official said. The youth is battling for his life in a hospital.
Sunny, around 25, slit his throat with a razor inside the Kidwai Nagar police station. He was picked up by the police Wednesday on charges of auto-lifting.
Sunny’s family alleged that he was falsely implicated in the case and tried to kill himself following police excesses. The family members also claimed that they were not allowed to meet Sunny.
“We have started an enquiry into the matter. Though it was a suicide attempt, we need to probe how the youth managed to get the razor,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Hira Singh told reporters in Kanpur.
Sunny, who runs an automobile repairing shop, is a resident of Juhi locality of this industrial city.
