Dhaka : Lauding Virat Kohli, who got an unbeaten hundred in his Cricket World Cup debut game Saturday, Indian opener Virender Sehwag said the youngster has matured as a batsman and would be a good prospect for the country.
“Virat kohli played really well. I think he is showing that he has matured as a batsman. He is not throwing his wicket. He is a quick learner,” said Sehwag, after India beat Bangladesh by 87 runs in a Group B game.
Kohli remained unbeaten on 100 and added 203 for the third wicket with his Delhi team mate Sehwag (175) to propel India to a mammoth 370 for four. Bangladesh managed 283 for nine.
Kohli, who led India to under-19 World Cup win in 2008, also became the first Indian to score a century on Cup debut. The century was also Kohli’s second unbeaten century against the neighbours.
Sehwag feels that Kohli “is a good prospect for India”.
“He has got five hundreds, and a hundred on his World Cup debut,” said Sehwag.
On his discussions with Kohli in the middle, Sehwag said: “Whenever we discuss things I say don’t throw your wicket. In the last Champions Trophy, he had thrown away his wicket against Pakistan and since then he has got five hundreds. So sometimes a small mention can make a whole lot of difference.”
