Workshop on Islamic Architecture held at AMU

Aligarh: The Department of Architecture of Aligarh Muslims University (AMU) under the aegis of ‘Centre of Islamic Architecture’ organized a workshop on “Legacy of Islamic Architecture and its impact on Contemporary World” on Sunday at Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology, AMU.

Noted historian Professor Emeritus, Irfan Habib delivered the Keynote address opening up realms of history of Islamic Architecture in India while Prof. S.M. Akhtar, Faculty of Architecture & Ekistics, Jamia Millia Islamia, threw a light on Islamic Architecture and its impact on Contemporary World.

In his presentation Dr. Nadeem Rizvi delivered an enlightening talk on the development of Islamic Architecture during Emperor Akbar’s reign while Mr. Nawab Ahmad explained in detail the role of Islamic values, rational and reasoning in framing the development of Islamic Architecture to make the buildings functional, comfortable, economical, energy efficient and climate responsive.

The workshop had 150 delegates including faculty and students from Department of Architecture, Civil Engineering, History and University Polytechnic. The Workshop also received delegates from various other Universities and colleges including Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Teerthankar Mahavir University, Moradabad.
