Tripoli/Cairo: Libya’s government said Saturday that it was being subjected to “barbaric aggression” as Western countries launched attacks on air defences and tanks to begin enforcing a no-fly zone.
The secretary-general of the Libyan Public Congress, Mohamed al-Zawi, confirmed that rocket attacks had been launched against “several locations” in Tripoli and Misrata. The attacks “caused real harm against civilians and buildings”.
“This barbaric aggression against the Libyan people comes while we have announced the ceasefire against the armed militias, which are part of Al Qaeda in North Africa.”
The UN Security Council Thursday night authorized the use of force against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime to halt violence against civilians and anti-government forces in the country.
