New Delhi : Maintaining that Washington was seeking Indian companies comply with its sanctions against Iran, the CPI(M) Friday asked the UPA government to make it clear that these “unilateral” actions would not be taken by India.
The government “must break its silence and speak out against the US stance towards Iran. (It) should clearly state that such sanctions will not be applied by India,” the party Politburo said in a statement here.
“This is necessary as in the recent period the United States has sought to get Indian companies to fall in line to comply with its sanctions and prohibition of trade and economic ties with Iran,” it said.
Asserting that these “unilateral sanctions” were aimed at Iran’s financial system and economy, the major Left party said the sanctions should not find acceptance in the international community.
“These come in the wake of the continuing threats to resort to military action against Iran,” the CPI(M) said.
