Lucknow: A four member delegation of All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB) led by their president Shaista Amber submitted a memorandum to the state governor BL Joshi on Wednesday for amending the constitution to provide rights to Muslim women as per Islamic Shariah.
Amber reading out the eight point charter of demands submitted to the governor stated that Sharia rights of Muslim women should be given to them by making suitable amendments in the constitution. “Till the amendment is done Muslim women muftis should be appointed in the judiciary for giving justice to Muslim women as per Islamic Shariah,” she said.
The other demands included removing encroachments from waqf properties and construction of housing projects on them for the needy women. The madarsa board students should be given reservation in various technical institutions of the state. All the criminal cases related to women should be handed over to Fast Track Court with a time limit of one year for disposal. There should also be provision of death penalty to rapists. The women should be given 50 percent reservation in legislature, judiciary and executive posts.
The delegation included president of AIMWPLB, Shaista Amber, Secretary, Sufia Khan and two members Shabnam and Muneer Jahan. The board has also stated to launch a signature campaign across the country for stressing their demands. The memorandum with the signatures will be then submitted to the President of India.
