Don’t force badminton dress code: Women’s panel

New Delhi : Reacting to a new rule that mandates skirts for female badminton players, the acting chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Tuesday said that forcing a dress code to make a game attractive was “wrong”.

“Sports should be treated as sports. Forcing a dress code to make a game attractive is wrong,” Yasmin Abrar said.

“What is important is your performance and not what you wear. If required, we will write to the Badminton World Federation (BWF),” she added.

The BWF has introduced the guideline in an effort to glamourise the sport. It will be implemented from May 1.
