New Delhi: Abdunnasir Maudany who is in jail in connection with the 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts has the right to get bail considering his health situations, opined the Supreme Court, according to media reports. The bail plea submitted by Maudany has been postponed to Wednesday for judgement.
Famous lawyer Shanti Bhushan who appeared for Maudany informed the court that his client was not included in the first and second chargesheets, but was later added in the additional chargesheet due to political reasons. He was earlier accused in the Coimbatore blasts and spent nine and half years in jail, after which he was released finding him innocent. He requested for bail citing the health conditions of Maudany, who is handicapped with only one leg and has several other ailments. However, the prosecution reportedly argued that Maudany was involved in the blasts at Ahmedabad and Surat and that, being handicapped was not a problem for him to be a part of the conspiracy of the Bengaluru blast. The case was then postponed to Wednesday upon the request of the prosecution.
Kerala’s PDP chairman Abdunnasir Maudany is 31st accused in the 2008 Bengaluru blasts which killed one and injured several others. He was arrested by the Karnataka police from Kerala on August 17, 2010 while he was on his way to surrender in court and the Supreme Court was about to consider his anticipatory bail plea. He was then denied bail by courts in Karnataka, due to which he approached the Supreme Court early this month. The SC had sent notice to the Karnataka government asking it to submit its report regarding the bail plea.
