Kolkata : With more complaints pouring in, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) S.Y. Quraishi has cautioned political parties in West Bengal against violating the poll code, a senior official said Friday.
“During an all-party meeting on Thursday Quraishi asked representatives of political parties to abide by the model code of conduct as numerous complaints of violations have been received by the Election Commission (EC) this time,” said state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sunil Kumar Gupta.
The EC Friday also received a complaint from Trinamool Congress accusing a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader and state minister of making derogatory comments.
“We have received a complaint against minister Sushanta Ghosh for allegedly using obscene comments to address Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at a rally in East Midnapore district,” said Additional CEO N.K. Sahana.
“We have asked the concerned district election officer (district magistrate) to look into the matter and asked him to send us the video footage and transcript of the said rally,” said Sahana.
The video footage and the transcript will be forwarded to the EC in New Delhi and then it will take the necessary steps.
CPI-M leader and Housing Minister Gautam Deb and Trinamool heavyweight Paresh Pal have been told by the EC to explain their appearance in an audio visual media on the poll day, added Sahana.
