New Delhi: After a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team landed in Copenhagen with an expired warrant for extradition of the 1995 Purulia arms drop case main accused Kim Davy, the Bharatiya Janata Party Thursday questioned the agency’s intentions to bring him back.

“We are not surprised the CBI claimed human error. Is it the matter, or just an excuse?” BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said here.

“The Congress party and the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) have a lot to explain about this case. Is Kim Davy going to get away like (Italian businessman and Bofors scam accused Ottavio)Quattrocchi? Is the CBI messing up the case? The CBI certainly does not suffer with this level of incompetence,” she said.

Sitharaman said the home ministry has failed to perform to the promises it made after the Mumbai terror attack for fostering higher coherence between intelligence wings.

“The home minister (P. Chidambaram), who took pains to show that efforts were being made for greater coherence among investigative and intelligence organs of the government post 26/11, today finds the CBI going to Copenhagen, seeking the extradition of the main accused Kim Davy with an expired warrant,” she said.

“The BJP feels that instead of preparing for political exchanges on our charge of the UPA’s height of incompetence, the minister should focus on his work and save the nation any further such embarrassment.”
