Shiv Pal Yadav, leader of opposition in the state assembly, was stopped from entering Dasna Jail where the farmer are being held.

“Your meeting with the farmers seems to be politically motivated. Hence, I fear a breach of peace. Therefore, I restrain you entering the jail using my powers provided under the jail manual,” Jail Superintendent Vireshraj Sharma said in a letter given to the leader.

On being denied entry to the jail, Shiv Pal Yadav sat on a protest on the National Highway 24.

Shiv Pal Yadav demanded that he be allowed to meet the jailed farmers, as Congress leader and central minister Sachin Pilot did so last week.

“They were also political leaders and their motives were also political. We want a clarification from the district magistrate,” said Shiv Pal Yadav.

The Sanajwadi Party leader was arrested and later released.
