Chennai : Chris Gayle smashed a spectacular 89 (47b, 5×6, 9×4) as Royal Challenger Bangalore, asked to bat first, made 185 for 4 against the Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier of the Indian Premier League here Friday.
In imperious form this IPL, Gayle crossed the 600-run mark as he punished a hapless Mumbai attack that came into its own only in the latter half of the innings, after the West Indian’s departure in the 15th over.
Gayle, along with Mayank Agarwal (41, 31b, 2×6, 4×4), put on 113 runs for the first wicket in 10.4 overs as Bangalore blasted off the blocks, but once the Jamaican departed, wickets fell in a hurry while Mumbai bounced back.
The winner of the game plays holders Chennai Super Kings in the final here Saturday.
