New Delhi: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Friday attacked the government for not helping noted painter M.F. Husain, who died in London, to return to India from his self-imposed exile.
“It is most unfortunate that Hussain had to stay away from India since 2006. It is a pity the government did not heed the voice of powerful solidarity to facilitate the return of Husain to India,” the CPI-M said.
“Hussain’s death must galvanise the movement to safeguard and strengthen the syncretic civilizational ethos of India, firmly adhering to secular democratic traditions,” it said in a statement.
The CPI-M said that the iconic artist, apart from “his signal contributions, through paintings and other creative activity, richly contributed in advancing India’s syncretic civilizational ethos”.
