By TCN News,

New Delhi: On the completion of his fourth year as the vice-chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University on June 10, 2011, it is a CBI probe that awaits Dr PK Abdul Aziz. President Pratibha Patil yesterday accepted the recommendation of the Human Resources Development Ministry to look into the allegations against the VC forming a two-member enquiry committee.

The ministry had recommended a CBI probe into the allegations to be completed within three months. It also suggested referring the findings of one of the two members of the committee to the Central Vigilance Commission.

The allegations against Dr Aziz include financial irregularities, charges of plagiarism in his D Sc, violation of rules on Executive Council meetings, autocratic way of functioning, etc. The university had to be closed down several times during his tenure following violence and unrest.

Earlier two committees had been set up to look into the allegations against the VC, but both were unable to come to a conclusion on the charges. While both members of the first committee resigned, the two members of the second committee were divided on their verdict as one found him guilty and the other innocent.

Dr Aziz, a marine scientist, assumed office as the VC on June 10, 2007. He has been instrumental in getting the consent of the central government in setting up five off-campus centers of the university across the country. However, the several charges remain a blot on his cap.
