New Delhi: Unhappy with the Congress-led Central Government for not considering the demand for amendment in draft bills on waqf and communal violence besides the Right to Education Act, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has decided to launch a nationwide agitation against the UPA Government. The decision for agitation was taken at the meeting of AIMPLB’s Working Committee presided over by its President Maulana Rabey Hasan Nadwi in New Delhi on 19th June.

The Board had sent its suggestions to the government for amendments in Waqf Bill, Communal Violence Bill, Direct Tax Code Bill and also Right to Education Act but the government and concerned ministers did not give any signal for considering the demands.

The agitation will be kicked off from a conference in West UP in the end of this month followed by similar conferences at deferent cities of the country.

On Communal Violence Bill, the Board said that the Bill prepared by National Advisory Council has ignored the role of provoking speeches, write ups and rumors that lead to the violence. In most of the incidents of communal violence, the state governments and district level officers fail to deal with the matter properly and seriously but the Bill is silent on holding them responsible and punish them for their carelessness.

On Waqf Bill, the Board said that its various provisions are incomplete and will lead to damage of Waqf properties. Besides, the proposed Waqf development Agency is also not in the favour of the Waqf properties rather it will harm that and also the income of the agency will not be spent fully for the community.

About Direct Tax Code Bill, the Board expressed its difference saying that it is going to end the concession given to the religious places, religious institutions, and charitable societies and anjumans in tax payment.

On Right To Education Act (RTE), the Board stated its stand that without amendment it will not be acceptable to the community because it is dangerous for madarsas and educational institutions managed by the community.

Those who attended the meeting include Maulana Nizamuddin, General Secretary, Maulana Wali Rahmani, Secretary, Maulana Abdur Raheem Quraishi, Asst. Secretary, Asaduddin Owaisi, Maulana Arshad Madani, MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi, Ms. Monisa Bushra, Dr. Asma Zuhra, Maulana Fazlur Rahman Mujaddidi and Zafaryab Jeelani.
