Mumbai: The Bombay High Court Wednesday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file within four weeks a further progress report on the ongoing probe into the Adarsh Society scam.
A division bench comprising Justice Ranjana Desai and Justice R.V. More gave the directions and posted the matter for July 20.
The directions came after the CBI, through Additional Solicitor General D. Khambatta, submitted two separate progress reports of its probe in sealed covers to the judges, said advocate Y.P. Singh.
While one report pertained to the probe into the Adarsh Co-operative Housing Society scam in Colaba, the second concerned the missing documents related to the case.
The CBI had Jan 29 filed a first information report (FIR) against 14 accused, including former chief minister Ashok Chavan and high-ranking officials and civilians.
Thereafter, the high court directed the original petitioner, social activist Simpreet Singh (represented by Y.P. Singh), to forward his complaint along with relevant documents to the CBI.
In his petition, Singh had demanded the transfer of the Adarsh Society case from the State Anti-Corruption Bureau to the CBI.
The state government later handed over the matter to CBI, which registered a FIR slapping various charges related to criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery.
It also invoked the Prevention of Corruption Act as the matter involved public servants and officials.
