Islamabad : Assassinated Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto has been posthumously conferred an award for her struggle against terrorism and militancy, a media report said.
The award was conferred Saturday at the ‘International conference on global fight against terrorism’ underway at Tehran, a report in the Urdu daily Jang said.
Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, the second child of Benazir Bhutto, received the award from Iraq President Jalal Talabani.
Benazir’s widower and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Sudanese President Omer Al Bashir were also present on the occasion.
Zardari thanked his Iranian counterpart for the citation honouring Benazir Bhutto.
“By honoring Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Mr. President, you have indeed honoured all those who are fighting against militancy,” he said.
The conference, aimed at increasing international convergence and coordination in fighting terrorism, officially started in Tehran Saturday with several high-ranking officials and international figures in attendance.
The event has brought together senior officials from at least 60 countries, and representatives from several international organisations including the UN.
