Chandigarh : Assistant Inspector General of Punjab Police P.S. Sandhu, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday for accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000, was sent to 14-day judicial remand by a local court here Wednesday.
Sandhu, who was posted at the Punjab Police headquarters in the city, was produced in the court of additional and sessions judge Lalit Batra as the CBI’s special court was closed. He was produced amid strong security cover.
Nishant Sharma, resident of Punjab’s Kharar town, around 15 km from here, had submitted a written complaint against Sandhu.
“The complaint said that Sandhu was demanding a bribe of Rs.300,000 for favouring him (Nishant) in inquiries pertaining to cases registered against him. He was arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 as part payment at a coffee house in Chandigarh,” said a CBI official.
Sandhu, a Punjab Police Service (PPS) official, has a controversial past. He was been earlier arrested in connection with his involvement in the infamous 2007 Moga sex scandal, around three years ago.
